Welcome to Buffalo Eagle; my home away from home on the Internet and the site for Andrew (Andy) Miller, me, an Eagle Scout living in Buffalo, NY. Why "Bflo" instead of "Buffalo"? Well, for starters, if you're from Buffalo you know exactly what it means (and it does not mean "bee-flow"). Second, domain name real estate. Shorter is better. Third, you have to be creative to get anything unique on the Internet now. I did manage to get beregond.com though, which won't mean much unless you're a LOTR fan...

Well, if you're really here to read this, I might as well start. Born in Buffalo New York, my parents shortly moved to Bealeton, VA where I was raised. After having a brother and spending seven years there, my parents decided to move back to Buffalo so my brother and I would be more closely involved with our extended family... My mother enrolled us in a small private school and assumed the "soccer mom" role by taking us to all the school outings (anyone remember school skating nights?) and sports trips. She was the silent observer always making sure we had the opportunities to succeed but never involving herself so much that we couldn't make our own decisions. Her lessons stuck with me more than I think she knows...

It is due to that silent influence from my Mom that my life started to take shape. During the first few years back, the loves of my life began to develop. Scouting quickly found a place in my day-to-day activities. I met a bunch of friends, went on a ton of camping trips with my brother and father (a few with Mom too but the bugs won out on those), learned some pretty awesome skills, and developed some lifelong values. The culmination of my Scouting career happened when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout back on September 10, 1998. It was a very nice feeling to have finally finished something that took more than seven years to complete.

Computers ended up becoming the other hobby in my life. My Father first introduced me to computers back when the Commodore 64 was around (and popular). It was not until third grade that I became very serious and built a 486 system of my own. From there, everything went uphill. I learned more from my Dad and mimicked him in a lot of the computer decisions until one day, I started to keep up with technology as it rolled out, as he had been doing since he entered the computer realm. From there, I just kept going. I taught myself a lots of things. I had successes and failures with new hardware and software. You know, the usual for almost any geek out there...

Overall computers just happened to develop more into a career than the Scouting did, though I value and hold dear to my heart all the memories I gained from Scouting.

I am a Computer Engineering graduate of the University at Buffalo currently working as a FileNet Systems and Websphere Administrator for a Top 20 Regional Bank. I would have never dreamed the little computer projects I did back in grammar school would bend me on a life towards advanced system administration and programming.

Not to forget the other aspects of my life, I am married to the most beautiful woman I have ever met. Jen and I tied the knot on July 31, 2004 in beautiful Lancaster, NY. Check out her site and say Hi! We had our first son in June of 2005. Alex weighed in at 5lbs 8oz and was a month early but everything went smoothly even though nothing went as planned. Alex is now in Pre-School and growing up very quickly. He's got a quick mind and has made Jen and I stop in our tracks on more than one occasion. All I am going to say is that I'm in trouble when he gets older. I know what my brother and I did to my Dad and ever since I've had kids, my Dad has been there to remind me that payback is... well... not fun.

Chris followed on January of 2008. Another rough ride in the hospital but in the end everything turned out OK. He knows a few words now and is starting to mimic his older brother in almost everything he does. Jen and I are still in shock from all the things he picks up on his own from talking to playing with toys that are made for his brother to way he acts around my parents and family. Every day is a new adventure.

Without them my life would not be what it is today. My family is my life and I count my blessings every day. Sooo... Now that you've read about the geek and the sap, why not drop me a line.
